Kedah Menteri Besar Maintains Firm Stance on State Government Money for Football Purposes

Kedah’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, has stood firm on the state government’s policy regarding the use of state funds for football purposes. He emphasized that government money will not be used to finance salaries or address issues related to the privatized Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC).

As the President of the Kedah Football Association (KFA), Sanusi reiterated that assistance to football clubs will only be channeled through KFA. The KFA has already donated RM16 million to KDA FC since its inception, showing continuous support for the club.

Sanusi made it clear that state funds will not be allocated for football player salaries, stating, “I don’t use government money to pay football salaries, just like I don’t use state government money to pay company salaries.” He emphasized that aid is provided through KFA without relying on government money.

The issue of outstanding salary arrears at KDA FC was addressed by Sanusi, who acknowledged the help provided by KFA over the years. He expressed concern about the potential impact on guardians after KFA came under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in January.

Sanusi suggested that the RM16 million previously channeled to KDA FC could have been used more effectively by supporting more deserving groups like orphans. He highlighted the importance of prudent financial management in sports, cautioning against mixing politics with sports, which could harm football.

Moreover, Kedah had faced restrictions on registering new players, being listed among the 6 teams barred from doing so on the FIFA website update. However, KL City successfully resolved the issue, showcasing the challenges faced by football clubs in managing financial matters effectively.

Sanusi’s unwavering stance on responsible financial management in football reflects the ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in sports administration. The support provided by KFA to KDA FC underscores the commitment to fostering a sustainable and ethical football culture in Kedah.
