Exciting Matches and Surprises in I-League as Season Nears Conclusion

The final weeks of the I-League have ignited a wave of excitement among football fans as Sreenidi and Neroca staged thrilling comebacks, reshaping the league’s landscape. Meanwhile, Aizawl fell short against Namdhari as Churchill Brothers clinched a crucial win. Here’s a roundup of the latest matchday action.

Brazilian winger Sergio Barboza stole the spotlight, guiding Delhi to a 3-1 victory over Shillong Lajong with a stunning hat-trick. Shillong did manage a late consolation goal from Allen Lyngdoh, but it didn’t alter the standings significantly. Delhi remains in 7th place with 29 points, while Shillong sits in 6th with 31 points.

Real Kashmir showcased their dominance with a win over Neroca, extending their unbeaten streak to 9 games. The Snow Leopards found the net through Gnohere Krizo, Hyder Yousuf, and Shaher Shaheen, securing a comfortable victory and climbing to 3rd place with 40 points, surpassing Inter Kashi.

In a highly contested match, Mohammedan and Inter Kashi played out a draw, with goals from Alexis Gomez and Mario Barco. The result leaves Mohammedan at the top of the table with 49 points, while Inter Kashi now trails Real Kashmir in 4th place.

Sreenidi Deccan put on a dominant display against Rajasthan United, securing a 6-1 victory as William De Oliviera and Lalromawia shined. The win propels Sreenidi to 2nd place with 44 points, ahead of Mohammedan.

Aizawl’s hopes were dashed by Namdhari in a 1-1 draw, with R Ramdinthara and Ivan Garrido finding the net. Aizawl remains in 9th place with 25 points, while Namdhari climbs to safety.

Churchill Brothers bounced back with a convincing 2-0 win over TRAU, with goals from Stendly Teotonio Fernandes and an own goal. The victory propels Churchill to 8th place with 27 points, ahead of Aizawl.

Lastly, Sreenidi missed an opportunity to close the gap on Mohammedan, settling for a draw against Neroca. Despite David Castaneda’s late penalty, Sreenidi failed to capitalize and now trail by 5 points in the title race.
