Hafizul Hakim Determined to Challenge for Number One Goalkeeper Position at KL City.
Hafizul Hakim, a player for KL City, is eager to secure the top goalkeeper spot at his new club. Recently joining The City Boys from Harini FT, which competed in the M3 League last season, Hafizul is determined to earn a place on the team.
Last season, the number one goalkeeper position was held by Filipino player Kevin Ray Mendoza before he left to join Persib Bandung in Indonesia. Following his departure, young Malaysian goalkeepers Azri Ghani and Azim Al Amin took on the challenge until the end of the 2023 Malaysian League season.
With Azim Al Amin’s move to Selangor, a door has opened for Hafizul to vie for the main goalkeeper position alongside national goalkeeper Azri Ghani. Hafizul acknowledged the competition, recognizing Azri Ghani’s position on the national team and the need to prove himself through hard work and performance, leaving the final decision to coach Miroslav Kuljanac.
The 31-year-old emphasized his commitment to giving his best in training sessions and letting his performance speak for itself, highlighting his willingness to compete and leave the ultimate decision to the coach. Hafizul, a former Perak goalkeeper, aims to contribute positively whether he is on the pitch or not.
Hafizul’s signing marks KL City’s continued efforts to strengthen their squad this season, following the acquisitions of S. Sharvin and Nick Swirad, as well as the return of the Lambert brothers on loan from JDT. With a mix of experience and new talent, KL City hopes to make their mark in the upcoming matches under the guidance of their coaching staff.
