Road to Olympic Games for Thai National Team Amidst U23 Asian Championship Challenges and Coaching Changes
The road to the men’s football Olympic Games for the Thai national team is still uncertain due to the U23 Asian Championship schedule overlapping with Thai League 1 and not being on the FIFA Day calendar. This could result in key players not being released to join the national team, with no league matches being postponed to accommodate the tournament.
After leading the Thai U23 national team in the second round, Issara Sritaro’s future as coach is in doubt, as the Football Association of Thailand is reportedly seeking a Japanese coach to implement the “Japan Way” style of play.
In the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup final round, the Thai national team finds itself in Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Tajikistan, with the tournament taking place in Qatar from 15th April to 3rd May 2024.
Three teams from the Asian continent will qualify for the men’s football Olympic Games, with the fourth-placed team entering the playoffs against Guinea from Africa for a chance to compete in Group A with France, the United States, and New Zealand in Paris during July 2024.
