Dynamic Duo: Fashion Sakala and Henry Onyekuru Shining at Al Fayha
Al Majma’ah, Saudi Arabia: Fashion Sakala and Henry Onyekuru have formed a formidable partnership at Al Fayha in the Saudi Arabia Division 1 this season. Both players, hailing from Africa – Sakala from Zambia and Onyekuru from Nigeria, made the switch to the Roshn Saudi League last summer, leaving European football behind for a new challenge with Al Majma’ah.
Sakala, 27, joined Al Fayha after a successful spell with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, where he played a key role in winning the Scottish FA Cup and finishing as league runners-up. Despite sometimes being out of favor at Rangers, Sakala has been a consistent performer for Al Fayha, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 24 appearances this season.
On the other hand, Onyekuru, a few months younger than Sakala, also arrived at Al Fayha after stints in Europe that saw him win titles with Galatasaray and Olympiacos. Despite a slow start, Onyekuru has found his form with 10 goals in 16 games, including crucial goals against the likes of Damac and Al Hazem.
The duo’s goal-scoring exploits have not only benefited Al Fayha but have also sparked a friendly competition between the two players to break the club record for goals in a single Saudi Arabia Division 1 campaign, currently held by Ronnie Fernandez at 13 goals during the 2017-18 season.
As the season reaches its climax, Sakala and Onyekuru continue to shine for Al Fayha, proving to be key figures in the team’s push for a higher league finish. Their partnership has been a revelation in the Saudi Arabia Division 1, with both players eyeing personal success while also contributing to the team’s collective objectives. Sakala and Onyekuru’s impact in Saudi Arabia has been nothing short of remarkable, with their exploits set to leave a lasting legacy in the RSL.
