“Brazilian Strikers Caion and Lira to Face JDT FC in Friendly Matches”
Two familiar faces in Malaysian football will be making an appearance for Chonburi FC as they take on Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT FC) in upcoming matches. The Brazilian duo of Herlison Caion and Willian Lira, known for their time in the Malaysian League (M League), will be looking to make an impact.
Caion, who previously dazzled Selangor FC fans with 24 goals and seven assists in the 2022 season, saw his contract with the club not renewed. He then moved to KL City FC in 2023 but only managed one goal in 16 appearances before heading to Hanoi FC.
On the other hand, Lira made his mark with Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) with eight goals in 15 matches during the 2023 season. After accepting Chonburi’s offer last year, he has since scored 13 goals in 26 appearances for The Sharks.
Withaya Laohakul, Chonburi’s coach, will be relying on these two strikers to lead the charge against JDT on March 20 and 22. Both teams are using these friendly matches to fine-tune their preparations, with JDT gearing up for the upcoming league season starting in May.
Chonburi, on the other hand, is hoping that their time in Johor for this mini training camp will help them avoid relegation in the Thai League 1 this season. The stakes are high for both teams as they look to gain valuable experience and form ahead of their respective campaigns.
