I-League Matchweek 21 Review: Mohammedan Sporting Club Maintains Lead as Excitement Peaks
Excitement is at its peak in the domestic football scene as Mohammedan Sporting Club leads the I-League table, with two teams battling to catch up. In the latest round of matches, Real Kashmir faced a setback, while Rajasthan United, Inter Kashi, and TRAU secured crucial victories.
Rajasthan United dominated Neroca, securing a resounding 5-1 victory. The new addition, Marin Mudrazija, scored a hat-trick, while Richardson Denzell and Sairuatkuma also found the back of the net. Despite David Singh’s consolation goal, Neroca suffered their 10th consecutive loss.
TRAU returned to winning ways by defeating Namdhari with a 2-1 scoreline. The game lacked stand-out moments, with TRAU taking the lead through an own goal and extending it with goals from Issahak Nuhu Seidu and Harmanpreet Singh. Namdhari managed to pull one back but fell short in the end.
Mohammedan Sporting Club faced a tough challenge against Churchill Brothers but emerged victorious with a 3-2 scoreline. Eddie Hernandez’s brace helped Mohammedan secure the win, despite Churchill’s spirited performance. With this result, Mohammedan inches closer to the title, sitting eight points ahead of the nearest competitor.
Inter Kashi continued their good run with a commanding 2-0 victory over Delhi FC. Haobam Tomba Singh and Peter Hartley found the back of the net, extending Inter Kashi’s unbeaten streak to seven games. The win propels them to 5th place in the table.
Real Kashmir faced disappointment as they could only manage a draw against Shillong Lajong. Adnan Ayub gave Real Kashmir the lead, but a late equalizer from Renan Paulino meant the points were shared. Real Kashmir now sits nine points behind Mohammedan in the standings.
Gokulam Kerala showed their class with a 4-3 win over Aizawl. Goals from Matija Babovic, Nikola Stojanovic, and Pitu Viera secured the victory for Gokulam, while Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia’s goal was not enough for Aizawl. Gokulam now occupies the 3rd spot in the table, while Aizawl narrowly avoids the relegation zone.
The I-League is heating up as the race for the title intensifies, with Mohammedan Sporting Club leading the pack. Fans can expect more thrilling encounters in the coming weeks as teams fight for glory on the pitch.
