FC Goa Coach Marquez Disappointed with 3-3 Draw Against Punjab FC in ISL

FC Goa faced disappointment as they settled for a 3-3 draw against Punjab FC in an intense Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The game saw an early lead by FC Goa through Carl McHugh, only to fall behind twice to Punjab FC. Wilmar Jordan Gil and Luka Majcen scored for Punjab FC in the second half, but Noah Sadaoui equalized for FC Goa with a penalty, leveling the score at 2-2. Juan Mera then put Punjab FC in the lead again, but a late goal from Carlos Martinez salvaged a crucial point for FC Goa in the away fixture.

With this result, FC Goa secured a spot in the playoffs along with Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Odisha FC, and Mumbai City FC. Despite their strong defensive performance throughout the season, conceding only 16 goals in 18 games, FC Goa has faced challenges in their recent games, letting in 12 goals in the last seven fixtures. Coach Marquez expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly highlighting their lack of character and inability to secure wins consistently.

Despite dominating possession and registering nine shots on target, FC Goa struggled to break down Punjab FC’s goalkeeper Ravi Kumar, who managed to deny all their attempts. Marquez emphasized the need for consistency in performances, citing the team’s ability to create chances but failing to capitalize on them effectively. The coach acknowledged that without improved consistency, FC Goa would struggle to compete for top honors in the league.

Marquez’s post-match comments reflected a sense of frustration with the team’s inability to convert opportunities into victories. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a high level of performance throughout the season to contend for the League Shield, emphasizing the need for a strong mindset and overall team spirit.

As FC Goa looks ahead to the remaining fixtures in the ISL, Marquez will be aiming to address the team’s inconsistency and instill a winning mentality to boost their chances of success in the competition.
