Qatar Stars League Foundation Launches First Edition of Qatar Electronic Stars League (EQSL)
The Qatar Stars League Foundation, in collaboration with the Qatar Electronic Sports Federation, has unveiled the inaugural edition of the Qatar Electronic Stars League (EQSL). The competition will feature 12 teams and will take place from March 21 to 23, 2024.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Foundation’s headquarters in Al Bidda Tower. The event was attended by Mr. Hassan Rabia Al Kuwari, Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Communications, and Mr. Ahmed Al Mughaisib, Project Manager.
The tournament will be hosted at the Farcho City Hall in the Doha Festival City Mall. The competition will be played on the popular game FC 24, developed by EA Sports.
Participating teams include Al-Ahly, Al-Arabi, Al-Wakrah, Qatar, Al-Rayyan, Al-Sadd, Al-Gharafa, Umm Salal, Al-Shamal, Al-Markhiya, Muaither, and Al-Duhail.
The tournament will feature a group stage format, with teams drawn into two groups of six. The competition will employ a one-on-one game system, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the knockout stages.
The draw resulted in Group 1 featuring Al-Shamal, Al-Duhail, Muaither, Al-Gharafa, Qatar, and Al-Sadd. Group 2 includes Al-Wakra, Al-Rayyan, Al-Ahly, Al-Markhiya, Al-Arabi, and Umm Salal.
The matches will be broadcast live on the Qatar Stars League’s social media platforms, showcasing the participating clubs, players, and key moments.
Mr. Hassan Rabiah Al-Kuwari expressed his excitement for the tournament, emphasizing the opportunity for organizations and clubs to delve into the realm of electronic sports. Mr. Ahmed Al-Mughaisib underscored the significance of the league in elevating competition levels and nurturing talent for international competitions.
The initiative aims to propel Qatar’s electronic sports scene forward, fostering increased participation and talent development. The collaboration between the Qatar Stars League Foundation and the Qatar Electronic Sports Federation signals a new chapter in the country’s esports landscape.
