Al Rayyan and Umm Salal Tie 2-2 in Expo Stars League Match

Al Rayyan and Umm Salal faced off in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in the seventeenth round of the Expo Stars League for the 2023-2024 season. Despite a 2-0 deficit, Al Rayyan managed to secure a draw, although dropping crucial points in the title race, slipping to third place with 32 points. Umm Salal, on the other hand, reached 20 points.

The scoring started with Umm Salal’s Kenji Joel finding the net twice in the 27th and 55th minutes. Al Rayyan responded with Ahmed Al Rawi scoring in the 59th minute and Roger Guedes netting the equalizer in stoppage time.

Umm Salal almost struck early in the second minute, but Al Rayyan’s response came through Bassam Al Rawi’s shot hitting the crossbar. Kenji Joel then opened the scoring for Umm Salal in the 27th minute, leading to a 1-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw Umm Salal extend their lead with Kenji Joel’s second goal in the 55th minute. Al Rayyan fought back, with Ahmed Al Rawi reducing the deficit in the 59th minute. Despite Umm Salal being reduced to ten men after Osama Tannan’s expulsion, Al Rayyan needed a goal in stoppage time from Roger Guedes to salvage a point.

In the closing moments, Al Rayyan’s Abdulaziz Hatem and Umm Salal’s Tamim Mansour Muftah had chances to snatch a late winner, but the match ultimately ended in a pulsating 2-2 draw. With the draw, Al Rayyan now sits in third place behind leaders Al Sadd and second-placed Al Gharafa.
