Syafiq Ahmad Returns to Kedah Darul Aman FC: A Conversation with Head Coach Nafuzi Zain

Syafiq Ahmad, the sharp striker for Kedah Darul Aman FC, recently discussed his return to the team with head coach Nafuzi Zain. The 28-year-old player has rejoined the Canaries for the upcoming 2024/25 Super League season, this time on loan from JDT.

In collaboration with Astro Arena, Syafiq revealed that Nafuzi Zain had expressed interest in acquiring his services since arriving in Kedah last year. This mutual desire led to Syafiq’s decision to return to Kedah, aiming to secure a spot in the starting lineup for the new season.

“The team and Nafuzi Zain really wanted me since he went to Kedah last season. He contacted me to bring him home with the team,” Syafiq shared. “That’s one of the reasons why I chose Kedah. I also saw that the tactics applied suited my style of play.”

Additionally, Syafiq expressed his aspiration to contribute to the team’s success and potentially earn a recall to the national team, Harimau Malaya. “I hope that one day I can return to help Harimau Malaya so that there is another qualification for the 2026 World Cup/2027 Asian Cup,” he conveyed to Astro Arena.

Syafiq’s last appearance for the national team was during the 2023 Asian Cup Qualification matches, where he played a crucial role. Despite limited playing time in the league competition last season, only amounting to 65 minutes, he delivered standout performances in the FA Cup matches.

As Syafiq aims to make a lasting impact with Kedah and potentially secure a spot back in the national team, his return to the Canaries signals a promising chapter for both the player and the club in the upcoming Super League season.
