Tsutomu Ogura, the newly appointed head coach of the Singapore national football team, has selected Kosei Nakamura and Gavin Lee to join his coaching staff for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against China. Nakamura, a former player for Albirex Niigata and assistant coach at Kashima Antlers, brings a wealth of experience to the team. Meanwhile, Lee, who has been leading Tampines Rovers since 2019, will also lend his expertise to the national squad.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the collaboration, Ogura emphasized the collective effort to elevate the performance of the national team. He conveyed his gratitude to the Singapore Premier League coaches and Tampines Rovers for supporting the appointment of Lee as part of the coaching setup for the crucial matches against China.
Nakamura, aged 42, kickstarted his coaching career in the academy setup at Kashima before progressing to the first team as an assistant coach. On the other hand, Lee made waves in the local football scene by clinching the Singapore Cup in his debut season as Tampines head coach and guiding the team through their maiden appearance in the Asian Football Confederation Champions League.
With the coaching team taking shape under Ogura’s leadership and the inclusion of Nakamura and Lee, the Singapore national team aims to make a mark in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The strategic appointments highlight a concerted effort to blend experience and fresh perspectives in pursuit of success on the international stage. As the Singapore football community rallies behind the revamped coaching staff, anticipation mounts for the national team’s performance in the upcoming matches against China.
