FC Goa Secures Crucial Victory Against East Bengal in ISL 2023-24
FC Goa secured a crucial 1-0 victory against the Red & Gold Brigade in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24, ending their five-game winless streak. The Gaurs’ star striker, Noah Sadaoui, played a pivotal role in the triumph, scoring the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute.
This win propels FC Goa to 32 points, just three points behind league leaders Odisha FC. The Gaurs hold a game in hand with 17 matches played, compared to Odisha’s 18. On the other hand, East Bengal finds themselves trailing at 18 points, behind Bengaluru FC by three points, both teams having played 18 games.
Under coach Manolo Marquez’s guidance, FC Goa displayed a commendable performance, dominating possession with 57.2% and outshooting their opponents with 17 shots compared to East Bengal’s 4. They maintained their attacking threat, registering more shots on target with 7 compared to East Bengal’s solitary attempt on goal.
Noah Sadaoui’s goal was a product of Goa’s relentless attacking efforts, with Carlos Martinez playing a crucial role as well. Despite East Bengal’s attempts to mount a comeback, they failed to break through Goa’s disciplined defense. The win significantly boosts FC Goa’s hopes of climbing up the league table, injecting confidence and determination into the squad.
Looking ahead, FC Goa aims to continue their winning streak against Punjab FC on March 11. Meanwhile, East Bengal FC will seek redemption in the upcoming Kolkata Derby on March 10, aiming to bounce back from their recent defeat and reignite their pursuit of success in the Indian Super League.
