PSSI Urges Stadium Renovations for Indonesian League 1 Clubs Before 2024-2025 Season
The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) is urging all football club stadiums in Indonesia hosting League 1 matches for the upcoming 2024-2025 season to undergo immediate renovations to meet FIFA standards. PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir emphasized the need for Semen Padang FC and the PSSI City Association of Padang City to enhance Gor Haji Agus Salim before the season kicks off.
Semen Padang is set to partake in League 1 for the 2024-2025 season; however, their home ground currently falls short of FIFA requirements. Erick Thohir, during his inspection of Gor Haji Agus Salim, expressed concern about its compliance with the standards set by FIFA, highlighting the necessity for improvements. “It’s difficult to reach League 1 standards. I found that the locker room needed renovations,” stated Erick.
The swift action is crucial to align the stadium with the FIFA standards before the commencement of the next League 1 season. PSSI suggests that if the renovations are not completed by July 2024, Semen Padang FC should aim to finish them for the 2025-2026 season, potentially with assistance from the central government.
Andre Rosiade, Semen Padang FC advisor and member of DPR RI’s Commission VI, warned that failing to renovate Gor Haji Agus Salim before the start of the 2024-2025 League 1 season could leave the club without a home ground. He reiterated the Chairman of PSSI’s statement, indicating that the venue did not pass the League 1 verification process, possibly leading Semen Padang to play matches away from West Sumatra.
The urgency to address the stadium’s deficiencies underscores PSSI’s commitment to raising the standards of football facilities in Indonesia. The collective efforts of all stakeholders, including government support, are vital to ensuring a conducive environment for League 1 matches in the upcoming seasons.
