YBC Levain Cup 2024 Begins with Exciting Matches in First Round

The 2024 edition of the J.League YBC Levain Cup kicked off with a bang in the first round of matches. The revamped tournament format saw four J3 clubs triumph over their J2 opponents to secure a spot in the second round. YS Yokohama emerged victorious against Mito with a narrow 1-0 win, while Ryukyu, Numazu, and Kitakyushu also secured wins to advance.

Ryukyu clinched a 2-1 victory over Fujieda, Numazu triumphed over Sendai with a 3-2 scoreline, and Kitakyushu defeated Oita 1-0 in overtime. These results set the stage for an exciting start to the tournament, with the remaining eight first-round matches scheduled to take place on the 13th.

The YBC Levain Cup’s first round featured a total of 57 clubs, excluding three teams, including Yokohama M, due to their participation in the Asia Champions League (ACL) final tournament. The clubs were divided into 10 groups, with the winners of each group set to progress to the playoffs for a chance to secure one of the top eight spots in the competition.
