Saudi Pro League (SPL) Vice Chairman Saad Al Lazeez emphasized the league’s commitment to sustainable growth in the upcoming years. At the Financial Times’ Business of Football Summit in London, Al Lazeez praised the early successes of the SPL Transformation Strategy, noting increased attendance, global engagement, and enhanced structures.

Al Lazeez outlined the league’s long-term investment approach, aiming to solidify the SPL’s position on the global football stage. The strategic plan, launched in 2023, targets elevating the SPL to a top-tier league, already surpassing expectations with promising results.

In a panel discussion titled “Will Saudi Arabia become a major football power?”, stakeholders examined the league’s trajectory, with Al Lazeez highlighting plans for sustainable growth. Notably, attendance figures for the 2023-24 Roshn Saudi League season revealed positive trends, with over 1.4 million fans attending matches.

Looking ahead, Al Lazeez expressed ambitions for the SPL to rank among the top five leagues globally within the next decade. With a focus on enhancing viewership and in-stadium engagement, the league aims to compete with established football powerhouses.

The Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project, initiated in 2023, marked a significant milestone as the Public Investment Fund acquired a majority stake in four RSL clubs, driving notable player signings. The project’s success has attracted interest from local and foreign investors for future phases.

Women’s football has also seen remarkable progress in Saudi Arabia, with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation Women’s Premier League entering its second season. Al Lazeez emphasized the league’s growth as a testament to the strides in women empowerment under Vision 2030.

Plans to integrate the women’s league into the SPL underscore the league’s commitment to inclusivity and growth. Al Lazeez credited the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in fostering a conducive environment for women’s empowerment, signaling further advancements in the realm of sports and societal progress in Saudi Arabia.
