Exciting Results from the Fifteenth Week of the Expo Stars League
The Expo Stars League for the 2023-2024 football season saw action-packed matches in the fifteenth week. Al Sadd, aiming to reclaim the title from the previous season victors Al Duhail, moved further away from the lead. Meanwhile, Al-Duhail continued their disappointing streak with a sixth loss this season.
Al Markhiya, under Algerian coach Madjid Bougherra, secured their second victory by defeating Al Wakrah. The public summit clash between Al Arabi and Al Rayyan ended in Al Raheeb’s victory, pushing them to third place.
Nineteen goals were scored during the week, with three players achieving hat-tricks – Akram Afif of Al Sadd against Qatar Club, Yassin Brahimi of Al-Gharafa against Al-Duhail, and Roger Guedes of Al-Rayyan against Al-Arabi.
The round featured one draw and five victories, with Al-Shamal, Muaither, and Al-Sadd keeping clean sheets. The results included Al-Shamal and Muaither drawing 0-0, Umm Salal defeating Al-Ahly 2-1, Al Markhiya beating Al Wakrah 2-1, Al-Gharafa triumphing over Al-Duhail 4-1, Al-Sadd outplaying Qatar Club 3-0, and Al Rayyan edging past Al Arabi 3-2.
The week kicked off with Al-Shamal and Muaither settling for a draw, maintaining their positions on the table. Umm Salal clinched a 2-1 victory over Al-Ahly, aided by Nasser Al-Nasr’s late goal. Umm Salal moved up to fifth place, while Al-Ahly remained in eighth.
Al Markhiya upset Al Wakrah with a 2-1 win, causing Al Wakrah to drop to fourth place. Al Sadd bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Qatar Club, with Akram Afif scoring a hat-trick. Al-Gharafa defeated Al-Duhail 4-1, pushing them to second place.
In the intense Al-Arabi and Al-Rayyan encounter, Al-Rayyan emerged victorious with Roger Geddes’ hat-trick, securing third place. Despite an expulsion, Al-Rayyan held off Al Arabi’s pressure to claim the win and move up the table.
Al Rayyan now sits in third place, while Al Arabi slipped to sixth. The week wrapped up with Al-Rayyan’s thrilling victory, solidifying their position in the league standings.
