CEO of Selangor FC Surprised by Former Coach’s Request to Leave
Selangor FC’s CEO, Dr. Johan Kamal, expressed surprise at former coach Tan Cheng Hoe’s decision to leave the team for a managerial position in the Thai League. Tan Cheng Hoe, who led The Red Giants for nearly two seasons, opted for a new challenge with Police Tero, a Thai League club currently ranked 14th, leaving Selangor in need of a new coach to prepare for the upcoming Asian Champions League 2 (ACL2).
In a statement to Astro Arena, Johan Kamal revealed the club’s astonishment at Tan Cheng Hoe’s departure but respected his decision. While the search for a new coach continues, Kamal hinted that interim coach Nidzam Jamil is a strong candidate for the position due to his experience with Selangor, working under previous coaches Karsten Neitzel, Michael Feichtenbeiner, and Tan Cheng Hoe. Kamal emphasized Nidzam’s familiarity with the team’s culture and players, making him a potential frontrunner for the role.
The announcement of Selangor’s new coach is expected in the next 2-3 weeks, as the club aims to finalize the decision without any last-minute rush. Despite Tan Cheng Hoe’s departure, his tenure saw Selangor reach the finals of the 2022 Malaysia Cup and finish as runners-up in the 2023 Super League, showcasing the team’s progress under his leadership.
As Selangor prepares to navigate the post-Tan Cheng Hoe era, the focus shifts to finding a suitable replacement who can build on the team’s recent successes and lead them into a new chapter. With Nidzam Jamil emerging as a potential candidate, the club remains optimistic about the future and eager to continue their pursuit of glory in domestic and international competitions.
