Exciting Kick-Off for 2024 Deloitte Women’s Premier League Season
The 23rd season of the Deloitte Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to commence on Saturday, 9 March 2024, featuring nine teams vying for glory in a total of 18 matchdays. The Police Sports Association (PSA) has withdrawn from the competition following their 5th place finish in the 2023 WPL edition.
The opening fixtures on 9 March will witness defending champions Lion City Sailors taking on Tiong Bahru at 5 pm, followed by a clash between Hougang United and Tampines Rovers at 7.30 pm. Lion City Sailors have bolstered their squad by promoting seven players from their Women’s National League (WNL) side, Mattar Sailors, and securing the signings of two promising teenagers, Qarissa Putri Ramadhani and Nur Sarah Zu’risqha.
The action continues on 10 March with Tanjong Pagar facing Still Aerion Women’s at 5 pm, and Albirex Niigata (S) squaring off against Geylang International at 7.30 pm to conclude Matchday 1. Albirex Niigata (S) has appointed Kana Kitahara, WPL 2023’s top scorer and Player of the Year, as their player-cum-Head Coach for the upcoming season.
With Balestier Khalsa receiving a bye on the first matchday, their opening fixture against Tiong Bahru will take place on 23 March 2024 in Matchday 2. The league will observe breaks during FIFA International Windows to accommodate international commitments.
Deloitte Singapore will once again serve as the league’s title sponsor, with the championship team receiving a prize of S$25,000, and the runners-up being awarded S$10,000 and S$7,500 respectively. Fans can keep track of league updates on the WPL’s social media platforms and official website, with free admission to all matches.
Regulations remain consistent, allowing teams to register up to 25 players with a maximum of four foreigners. The forthcoming season promises excitement and fierce competition as the teams gear up to battle it out for supremacy on the football pitch.
