National Football Awards 2023 (ABK23) Highlights and Categories Announced

The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has announced the upcoming National Football Awards 2023 (ABK23) set to take place in December. This annual event aims to recognize achievements in the Malaysian football scene, specifically honoring players and coaches in the Malaysian League.

Notably, Harimau Malaya’s head coach, Kim Pan-gon, will select the Most Valuable Player (MVP) from winners in four categories: Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfielder, and Best Forward. Other awards such as Best Team, Fair Play, Fan XI, and Best Goal of the Malaysia League 2023 will also be presented.

Last season saw the ABK22 held virtually, featuring 16 award categories across various competitions. This year, the ABK23 will bring back the physical event, introducing new categories for a total of 16 awards up for grabs.

Among the newly added categories are MFL Player of the Year and MFL Cup Top Scorer. The MFL Cup competition, involving teams under 23 years of age, was introduced this year.

A total of 398 players out of 782 have been shortlisted for the ABK23 based on their performances with their respective clubs. The ABK23 Screening Committee will then select the top 10 players in each category, with input from head coaches, team captains, and media representatives.

The anticipation for the National Football Awards 2023 is high, as players and coaches eagerly await the results of the prestigious event. Stay tuned for updates on the winners in the various categories at the end of December.
