The Meaning Behind the Three Stars on JDT Logo Explained by TMJ

Local football fans have long pondered the significance of the three stars adorning the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football club logo. Finally, club owner DYAM Major General Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ) shed light on this mystery during a recent appearance on the ‘Keluar Sekejap’ podcast.

In a conversation with Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ), TMJ clarified that the three stars do not symbolize championships or club accolades. Instead, they represent the Late Sultan Iskandar, His Royal Highness Sultan Ibrahim, and TMJ himself.

TMJ revealed that his call sign was Johor 3, hence the association with the number three. He explained, “Three has always been my lucky number. Since I was little, I always use the number 3 when playing polo. Everything I want to do, be a hat-trick.”

Acknowledging the challenges of managing a football club, TMJ highlighted the financial pressures faced by Malaysian clubs. He cited examples of clubs like Kedah, Sabah, Kelantan, and Sarawak encountering salary payment issues, underscoring the monetary challenges prevalent in the football industry.

Despite the financial constraints, TMJ expressed dedication to the club’s welfare, admitting that both he and His Royal Highness have occasionally had to dip into their personal funds to support JDT. The reality of investing substantial sums yet reaping limited returns through ticket sales, merchandise, and sponsorships underscored the financial complexities inherent in football club management.

In elucidating the symbolism behind the three stars on the JDT logo and candidly addressing the financial hurdles confronting football clubs, TMJ provided insight into the multifaceted responsibilities and commitments involved in overseeing a prominent football entity. This revelation not only offers clarity to avid fans but also showcases the intricate dynamics at play within the realm of Malaysian football.
