I-League Matchweek 17 Review: Drama Unfolds as Title Race Heats Up
India’s I-League witnessed a thrilling set of matches as teams battled fiercely to secure vital points in the intense title race. Delhi FC emerged victorious against Neroca FC in a convincing display, securing a 2-1 win with goals from Shokhrukhbek Muratov and Rahul Rawat, while Adama Coulibaly pulled one back for Neroca. Delhi’s triumph lifted them to 7th place in the standings as Neroca continue to struggle at the bottom.
Aizawl and Rajasthan played out a hard-fought draw, with both teams aiming to bounce back from heavy defeats in previous fixtures. The match ended goalless, highlighting their need to regroup and find their winning form. Speaking of Sreenidhi, they moved closer to table-toppers Mohammedan with a comprehensive 2-0 triumph over Namdhari FC, courtesy of a brace from Rilwan Hassan. Sreenidhi’s impressive form sets up a crucial showdown with Mohammedan in their next match, with just 2 points separating the two sides.
Lastly, Shillong climbed the table with a dominant 2-1 victory over TRAU FC. Despite falling behind to an early goal from Issahak Nuhu Seidu, Shillong rallied back through goals from Allen Lyngdoh and Marcos Rudwere Genare Silva to secure the win and move up to 5th place in the standings.
