Inaugural Kalinga Super Cup 2024: Clash of Titans in the Land of Odisha
The All India Football Federation has announced the commencement of the Kalinga Super Cup in Odisha on January 9, 2024. The tournament will feature teams from both the Indian Super League and I-League, with matches set to take place in two venues across the state. Teams will be divided into four groups, playing single-leg matches within their respective groups to advance to the semi-finals, leading up to the championship final on January 28, 2024.
In Group A, East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant are set for a high-stakes clash in the third Kolkata derby of the season. Only one team will progress to the semi-finals from this group, intensifying the competition for both sides. Hyderabad FC and I-League representative Sreenidi Deccan FC will also vie for a spot in the semi-finals, with Hyderabad FC looking to bounce back from recent setbacks and Sreenidi Deccan FC posing a formidable challenge to ISL teams.
The Gaffers of the four teams from Group A have participated in a press conference ahead of the tournament, sharing their insights and strategies. Sreenidi Deccan FC’s coach, Carlos Vaz, expressed the team’s commitment to growth, highlighting their past success in the tournament and the opportunities it has provided for players to transition to the ISL.
