FAS yet to admit new club into Singapore Premier League (SPL)
The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has been the center of attention in recent weeks, as speculation swirls around the admission of a new club into the Singapore Premier League (SPL). Despite social media posts from Tengah Football Club claiming they had received “in-principle approval” to compete in the league, FAS has yet to confirm any new additions.
In response to queries from CNA, a FAS spokesperson emphasized that the admission process is still ongoing and that any changes to the clubs participating in the SPL will only be announced once the exercise is completed. This cautious approach is understandable, given the significance of adding a new club to the league.
FAS revealed that they have received numerous responses from clubs expressing their interest in joining the SPL. While in-principle acceptance may be offered to certain clubs, there are stringent prerequisites that must be met before an unconditional approval is given. These requirements include meeting Asian Football Confederation Club Licensing standards, fielding a competitive team, and securing the necessary financial resources to sustain operations throughout the season.
The search for a 10th club to join the SPL began in December last year, with the goal of elevating the professional football scene in Singapore and attracting top talent. By expanding the league and fostering significant fan engagement, FAS aims to enhance the overall quality and competitiveness of football in the country.
As fans eagerly anticipate the announcement of the new club, the buzz surrounding the potential addition to the SPL only serves to underscore the growing interest and excitement surrounding football in Singapore. Stay tuned as FAS continues its evaluation process and prepares to unveil the final lineup for the upcoming season.
