Thailand’s Surging FIFA Rise Reflects AFC Asian Cup Triumph

Thailand’s men’s football team has surged 12 places to 101st in the latest FIFA rankings, showcasing their remarkable performance at the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar. Despite expectations of a Group stage exit, the War Elephants advanced to the last 16, securing the second-best position in their group. The Football Association of Thailand attributes this rise to the team’s stellar showing in the tournament.

Remarkably, Thailand leads Southeast Asia, surpassing teams like Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore. Argentina maintains its position as the world’s top team, followed by 2022 World Cup runner-up France.

Looking ahead, Thailand gears up for World Cup qualifiers against South Korea. The first match is scheduled in Seoul on March 21, with the return leg at Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium five days later. Presently, Thailand holds the second spot in Group C, trailing South Korea, with one win and one loss. China and Singapore complete the group, setting the stage for an exciting campaign as Thailand strives for World Cup qualification.
