Al-Ittihad is reportedly considering a record-breaking offer for Liverpool’s forward, Mohamed Salah. The club, facing conflicts with Karim Benzema, is contemplating a historic move in the transfer market by proposing a staggering €235 million for the Egyptian striker. If successful, this transfer would become the most expensive in football history, surpassing Neymar Jr.’s previous record when Paris Saint-Germain paid €222 million to secure him from Barcelona.
The potential departure of Benzema due to disagreements with the leadership and coach Marcelo Gallardo has led Al-Ittihad to see Salah as a stellar addition to strengthen their squad. In the previous transfer window, the Saudi club unsuccessfully attempted to acquire Salah with a €180 million offer, which was rejected by the English side. Besides being historic in terms of the transfer fee, Salah’s potential inclusion would demonstrate Al-Ittihad’s commitment to establishing themselves as a top-tier team globally.
The proposed package for Salah is estimated to be around £1.5 million per week (almost $1.8 million), approximately four times his current salary. This substantial financial incentive could play a crucial role in convincing Salah to make the move to Al-Ittihad. The 31-year-old forward, currently recovering from a muscular injury sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations, has been a key figure for Liverpool, amassing 18 goals and nine assists in 27 appearances this season.
In an effort to facilitate Salah’s arrival, Al-Ittihad is also considering appointing Julian Ward, former director of football at Liverpool, to a similar position at the Saudi club. Ward, who played a crucial role in Liverpool’s acquisition of Alexis Mac Allister, may play a vital role in persuading Salah to join Al-Ittihad, despite Liverpool’s interest in retaining their star player.
The potential acquisition of Mohamed Salah by Al-Ittihad for a record-breaking transfer fee signifies the club’s ambitious approach to strengthening its squad and making a mark on the global football stage. The financial commitment and strategic considerations, including the possible appointment of Julian Ward, indicate a serious intent to secure Salah’s services. If successful, this move could not only reshape the dynamics of the Saudi Arabian club but also contribute positively to the overall development of Asian football.
